Government Hour 2
4 November 2003
In my opinion The United States
should finish the job of liberating Iraq. I believe this because we need to
help Iraq build a secure
country, a democratic government, and a self-sustaining economy.
We need to help Iraq build a secure country. I think this because if we do not, Iraq would go back to the way it use to be before the war started. This happened in the 1991 Persian Gulf War when we left Iraq after stopping them from taking over Kuwait. Saddam came back to power. During the rule of Saddam, the leader of Iraq tortured killed, and repressed the people of Iraq for years. Saddam sent bombs that were filled with chemicals raining down on the Kurds. These weapons were filled with chemicals such as mustard gas, which killed thousands of innocent people.
I
believe a democratic
government should be built in Iraq. The reason I think this is because the
people of Iraq would be able to choose their own leader. Also there would no longer
be a dictator in Iraq giving the people more freedoms than they had
before. If a democratic
government is built laws that don’t protect the peoples rights will no longer
be made and the people would be more likely to like the new government.
If we do
not finish the war in Iraq there will not be a self-sustaining economy in Iraq.
Iraq has oil, which they could sell to sustain the economy, but if the war is
not finished they will not use the money in that way. Instead the dictator will
keep most of the money like Saddam did.
In
conclusion The United States should finish the job of liberating Iraq
because we need to help Iraq build
a secure country, a democratic government, and a self-sustaining economy.
