Karen G. Weinberge was born in 1950 and is still living She has two children, Ben and Joe and she is married, her husbands name is Lloyd. She also has a sister, Sandy Gratberge. Karen G. Weinberg had this book published by “White Mane Publishing Company, Inc” and Beidel Printing House, Inc in Shippensburg PA printed the book. I searched the Internet and called the public library but no other information was available.

Karen G. Weinberge has written two books, they are Window of Time and Cherokee Passage.

Some important characters in Window of Time are Joseph Harner and Ben Leeds.

The book Window of Time starts out when Ben Leeds’ family moves to Westminster Maryland. About three weeks after moving into their new house in Westminster Ben went to the basement to clean up some boxes. Ben found an old piece a paper in one of the boxes; he couldn’t read the paper because it was too dark in that area of the basement. Ben went to find a window in the basement but the window was boarded up. He took of the boards and he saw kids playing in his back yard. One of the kids playing in the yard kicked a ball through the window breaking the glass and then the kids ran away. Ben got the ball and went to give it back to the children by climbing through the window. Instead of ending up in just his back yard Ben had went through a porthole that took his into the past. The first thing that happened to Ben in the past was that a dog chased him. Ben jumped over a fence and met a boy named Joseph. Most of the book has Joseph and Ben traveling throughout northern Maryland and some of Pennsylvania. Joseph took Ben to see a battle in Westminster.   Ben and Joseph got to watch some of the Battle of Gettysburg. After seeing the Battle of Gettysburg they went back to Westminster and Joseph took Ben back home to Ben’s house. Ben went back through the window and ended up in his basement where he started out. After his adventures into the past Ben decided that he liked living in his new home in Westminster. Ben realized that Westminster was an interesting place to live and it was rich with history.

Window of Time is historical-fiction. I chose this book because I wanted to read something that was interesting and the story also took place in the town that I used to live in. I usually read historical non-fiction books. The main things that I liked about this book were that it was based on history and it takes place in Westminster, Maryland. The only things that I dislike about this book were that it had too few details. I would not recommend this book to others because it is too short, I think the story could have been longer and the book should have had more details in it.

Ben Leeds, the main character in this book changed from how he was at the beginning of the book because at the beginning of the book he didn’t like small towns. He thought that they were boring. Ben thought that Westminster wouldn’t be any fun because he was used to living in a big city. By the time the story ends Ben likes living in Westminster. He became very interested in the history of the town and the surrounding area. Ben learned what life was like during the Civil War in Carroll County Maryland.

The ending of this book is appropriate because Ben makes it back to his home in the twentieth century. If you believe that a person can travel through time then the ending is believable. The story could have ended many other ways. The story could have had Ben get stuck 132 years in the past. It could also have had Ben killed. I am satisfied with the ending of this book, I am glad that the character Ben made it home safely.

The setting suites the plot of the book because many of the events that happened in the book really took place in Maryland and Pennsylvania. The story occurs when and where it does because that is where the battles of this part of the Civil War really took place. I can’t think of a better setting for this story to have taken place in.
