I have been
teaching
for 8 years and this is my sixth year at the New Mexico Military
Institute. I teach both high
school and college Mathematics and Engineering courses. I taught
in the Albuquerque Public School District as well as the Roswell
Independent School District before coming to NMMI. I received my
BS in Mechanical engineering from the University of New Mexico and
worked in Albuquerque and Seattle before deciding to go back to school
to become a teacher. I earned my Masters in
Education from Lesley University, located in Cambridge, MA. I
enjoy teaching because I truly feel I
am making a difference in
someone's life, and that motivates me to continue to strive for
perfection in my profession.
I believe students learn and retain information the best when they can
relate it to hands-on, real-life situations. Therefore, I
incorporate projects into the classroom whenever appropriate so the
students can apply their knowledge to "real-world" problems. As
an undergraduate student at UNM I took a class that involved designing,
building and racing a baja vehicle. This class was the most
difficult (and rewarding) class of my undergraduate career. I
learned more about engineering from that one project than any other
class I took as an undergraduate student.
