WIT, WISDOM and WISEACRING
From the author's preface:
I, having just completed my last book, Connecting, after a four-year rest from putting fingers to computer keyboard, decided to have a little fun by collecting a bunch of my favorite wisdom statements, illustrating each one in some appropriate wayreflecting either my serious or humorous side. In this spirit of abandonment and political incorrectness, then, I have entitled this latest literary creation Wit, Wisdom and Wiseacringletting the chips fall where they may. As I can only include so much in one volume without overburdening the reader, I probably will begin work on a second volume, after awhile, which I will probably name More Wit, Wisdom and Wiseacringwhether or not anyone will be interested in this first volume. After all, one does become more jolly and free-spirited with age, providing that one does not allow oneself to become morose with both world events and an aging physical body.
In this first collection, then, I have drawn from Ancient Greek, Taoist, Sufi,
Vedantic, Buddhist and Judeo-Christian Scriptural statements, as well as more
contemporary philosophical, alchemical and modern scientific commentaries. The
statement or commentary I have placed on the left-hand page and the illustration
on the right-hand page. If the statement or commentary is my own, I give no
attribution. If possible, except for myselfa likeness of which is shown
on the last page, I have tried to include a photograph or other pictorial representation
of the author.
Having no talent as a freehand artist, I have taken advantage of both appropriate
clipart, or resorted to downloading images from the Internet in creating the
illustrations, adding some artistic backgrounds using a good painter program.
Especially helpful in providing images has been Wikipedia, the free Internet
encyclopedia.
I believe in brevity, so no more need be said, as the following pages will speak
for themselves.
