Things
You Should Know Before Hiring A Disc Jockey
Your DJ should have enough experience to handle any
unforeseen circumstances. They should be able to emcee the entire
event, not just the dance. Your DJ should offer to play music during
the dinner and work with the other wedding professionals such as the caterer
and the photographer.
Your
DJ should be willing to dress appropriately for your event.
Shop
around. Find out what's included in the per hour price. Some
services are over-priced, charging to compensate for a large overhead and
charging you for any "extras". Other services are cheap and
offer unprofessional performances and use inexperienced disc jockeys.
Your
DJ should be flexible in scheduling the length of your event. Don't get
caught up in a DJ service trying to sell you time you may not want or need.
Be
cautious of companies that make tipping part of their contract. You
should be able to decide if your DJ gave you a great performance at a fair
price. Its always nice to say thanks and show your appreciation in your
own way.
Your
DJ should be willing to provide references upon request.
The
DJ's equipment should be professional. No home speakers or home-made
lights. You should expect the best!
Your
DJ should be able to play a variety of music to entertain your varied
guests. Their music library should contain music from the oldies, disco
and big band to country, rock and dance. They should be able to provide
a sample library listing. All music should be on compact discs.
Your DJ should be willing to purchase any special music you request that they
do not currently have in their library.
Do
not be impressed by a service boasting a HUGE music library. In a 4
hour event, only 70-80 songs may be played. More important than a large
library is knowing if your DJ will have the music you and your guests want to
hear.
Any
requests you or your guests may have should be honored by your DJ.
Although, a good DJ will recognize a request in poor taste or one that is
inappropriate for your event and a suitable alternative should be suggested.
