Gerald's Mud-bug

Hook - #2 Long shank

Flash - Gold Flashabou
Eyes - Lead Eyes tied on bottom at curve of hook *Vary the size to match the amount of flow in the stream you are fishing.
Body - 2mm EVA foam Tan.
*Cut strip and tie onto hook with parallel segments using brown thread.  Lift the foam and wrap to next segment to achieve parallel segments.
*Tail action, tie in Maribou or Flat plastic strips to impart action near the hook eye. (The loose foam, shown, is pushed back by the water flow
and does not impart motion, but was still a very effective fly.) The Spotted Bass in Alabama loved this fly and could not wait to eat it.
*Note : The fly in the photo has been fished and afterwords stored in a fly box wet, thus the shape of the "Claws."

Mike's Soque Hooker

Hook - #6 long shank Streamer
Thread - 3/0 Brown
Tail - Olive Grizzly Hen Cape
Body - Estaz or Ice Chenille large - Rootbeer
Eyes - Lead Dumbbell style or equivalent (I used Gator Eyes)
I developed this fly when first playing with Cactus Chenille, who knew it would work as well as it did.  It is a cross between a Cactus fly and a Near-Nuff Sculpin.  Everyone who used this fly caught nice fish on it.

Mike's Soque Road Hooker - Black  Mike's Soque Road Hooker - Black

Mike's Soque High Occupancy - Black
(aka - Mike's Soque H.O.)

Hook - #6 long shank Streamer

Eyes - Dumbbell style Lead eyes or equivalent (I used Gator eyes)
Underbody - Estaz or Ice Chenille - Rootbeer
Overbody - Saddle Hackle - Palmered rear to front to behind eyes.
I developed this Trout fly with input from Gerald Stough and Rob Raynor on my October 2004 trip to Blackhawk.  It is so good, you almost have to get out of the water to tie it on.  I used this fly on March 2005 at Blackhawk and caught numerous fish including a 27inch long/17 inch girth Rainbow Trout.

Mike's Trout Candy
Mike's Trout Candy *

Mike's Trout Candy

Hook - #6 J Style Freshwater
Thread - Flat waxed nylon to match Body color
Tail - Small Curled silicone  rubber with or without Marabou.  * I experienced a few short stricks when I used the full tail, which resulted in the tail being pulled off at the hook.  I since have clipped the tail in half and found the fly just as effective and more durable.
Eyes - Dumbbell style Lead eyes or equivalent (I used Gator eyes)
Body - Estaz or Ice Chenille - Rootbeer and Pearl shown
This fly turned out to be truely outstanding on trout.  I used it at Blackhawk March 2005 and it is a winner.  Fishing first thing in the morning was slow until the sun made it to the water.  Trout Candy worked like magic.  I had to tie a dozen of them at lunch for the rest of my party.
