EXCITING NEWS!!!! We are holding our 1st flute festival here in Southern Idaho!!! please visit the web site for more details! Magic Valley Flute and Art Festival

now..back to our regularly scheduled program <grins>

In a small shed converted to a workshop Mike brings blocks of wood he lovingly selects through the doors to begin a magical transformation. He is an enrolled member of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma and a certification of Native American Indian craft will accompany each flute or drum he sells. These are not Native American "style"..Mike's flutes and drums are authentic Native American Made.

He spends hours making sure that the wood is the correct dimension and smoothness to produce the quality of flute that will be awe inspiring in sound and beauty. Then he begins on the "bird" or block that will nest on top of the flute body to bring the music to the flute.

Only after the two hand crafted pieces are mated will the fundamental note of the flute be known. Then the holes are placed accordant to that note and it is tuned to the key of that fundamental note. This note is affected by the length and breadth of the bore, the slow air chamber (SAC), the flue and a host of other variables. No two flutes are the same, but all are Pentatonicly tuned with six holes at 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Diatonic scale must be special ordered.

We are proud participants of a monthly local event The Magic Valley Flea Market and we invite you to come to see and play the flutes that are currently for sale, along with some beadwork, smudge kits, flute blanks, copies of the ki-e-ta Manual and to meet the maker, Mike Wamego. We prefer to handle our online sales through PayPal, but can accept money orders or personal checks (subject to clear our bank before shipment.)

Mike also makes and mails flute blanks for those who want to finish their own but don't have access or the desire to use a router or the time consuming gouge method.
Most are of Aromatic Cedar or Poplar and follow the ki-e-ta Manual measurements for a 3/4" bore or the 7/8" bore. The SAC, the bore, and the flue are routed in and the rest of the sanding, gluing, clamping, hole placements for tuning and finishing is left for the crafter to complete.

The "Flute blanks" page gives an easy to read chart for pricing, but please email Mike to confirm wood selection, shipping options and size/bore/key of flutes or blanks.

The "Finished flutes" page currently has a chart on what to expect in the cost of a requested flute, we hope to start listing ones that are done and ready for a home...they just keep going before we get them photographed and listed!
