Bavaria

Bavaria is a state in south east Germany.  While in Germany, this beautiful area has remained one of our favorite places to visit.  Munich is the capital of Bavaria and is one of the largest cities in Germany.  King Ludwig II was the King of Bavaria during the middle 1800s.  He is famous for building three castles, Schloss Herrenchiemsee, Schloss Linderhof, and the fairy tale castle, Schloss Neuschwanstein.  Of course, we have visited all three and more than once.

Berchtesgaden is a particularly beautiful city located in the south east part of Bavaria.  Other places of interest, both from tourist and historical perspective are Oberammergau, Ettal, Garmisch, and the Wieskirche pilgrimage church.

On the darker side of history is the WW-II concentration camp at Dachau

Thoughts of Bavaria bring to mind hills covered with forests and pastures,  the German Alps, houses with wooden balconies and flower boxes in every window, beer, bratwurst, lederhosen, dirndl dresses, and outstanding scenery.
