Dunstanburgh Castle

We first spotted Dunstanburgh Castle off in the distance. It sits on a point of land jutting out into the North Sea high atop a cliff. This 14th century castle is very intriguing when you see it from a distance. There are no other buildings around it, so it is easy for your mind to wander back a few centuries and imagine what it was like when it was still active. The path to the castle is around a mile long and wanders through a sheep pasture. The castle is basically in ruins and only parts of some of the rooms remain. Even so, it was a fascinating place to visit.
