England

Maggie was born in the county of Northumberland in the north east, and later moved to Lancashire on the west coast.  Later, we lived in an area called East Anglia when Ron was stationed there in the Air Force.  Our travels have also taken us to Cambridge, the Lake District, York, and of course, London.  Just a few of the other places of interest that we have visited are Belvoir Castle, the city of Chester, Little Moreton Hall, Warwick Castle, and Windsor Castle.

In England, history abounds and is obvious to even the most casual observer.  Virtually every city, town, or village has a church that dates back 500 to 900 years.  Half timbered houses date back to the days of Queen Elizabeth - I and are still in use today.  Quaint thatched houses can be seen throughout the country and you never have to go very far to visit a castle in one state of restoration or another.

The first two pictures, above, are examples of old churches common in most villages.   The second two pictures show an old church we happened upon.  It was overgrown with vegetation and long forgotten.  One can only wonder what history it has seen.

The photo on the left shows an effigy of a nobleman marking his burial place. These are not uncommon.

On the right is an interesting woven fence along a walking path.
