Cambridge

Cambridge is most commonly known as the home of one of England's major universities. The photos below show some of the sights around the area of the university.  Punting on the (River) Cam is a popular pastime as seen in the third photo, top row.  The fourth photo in the top row and the first two photos in the second row show the magnificent King's College Chapel. The last photo in the second row shows the open market in the town square as seen from the top of the tower of a nearby medieval church.

The final set of pictures is an American WW-II Cemetery in Cambridge.  Thousands of GI's, who paid the ultimate sacrifice, rest here in peace.  We have stopped by on several occasions to pay our respects to those who have gone before.

In Flanders Field

In Flanders field the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Major John McCrae, May 1915.
