This is my latest project. I acquired the 65 Beetle on February 9th, 2004. The car has been stored in an open shed for about 18 years. I am planning on a total restoration and will be documenting the progress here. Page 2 updated on 9/15/2008

I am restoring the car to its original color which was VW Color L288 Bermuda Blue, the background color of this page is about the right color.

Floorpans - Removed the seats, removed all loose rust, and applied a chemical that is supposed to stop the rust. February 18th

Finally got the wheels off - March 22

April 22 - Time to remove the gas tank and have a good look at the master cylinder

The tank looks a lot better on the top than it looks on the bottom - however this does not appear to be bad enough to require a replacement tank.

4/22/2004 - The master cylinder looks pretty rough - think I will order a new one.
4/30/04 - Okay, Got the car down into the back yard by rolling it down the hill. After arriving two of us could not budge the car and the emergency brake would not work. Wheels had to be chocked to prevent the car from going into the lake.
Rigged up a block and tackle - pulled the car several feet - blocked wheels - and repeated. VW was about 50 feet down the hill from the shop before I started.
After about 90 minutes of pulling and tugging I inched my way toward the shop.
As I got closer I had to rig a 2X8 across the opening of the door to continue inching up the hill.
After about 2 hours and several blisters, SUCCESS! Now I can really start disassembling the car for restoration.
