Four hundred thirty-three H.S. Students Attend 1st Annual Southern Gila
County Post Secondary Education Fair
On Nov. 3 juniors and seniors from Globe
USD, Globe
Education Center, Miami USD, San Carlos USD, and Liberty High School
had the opportunity to talk about post high school possibilities with
47 participating agencies. Universities, colleges, technology
institutes, county agencies, job corps, fire & police departments,
and branches of the military were all great resources for county H.S.
upperclassmen.
The Fair was primarily organized by Dean Tamara Glinski, of the
Southern Gila Co. College Preparatory Academy. Dean Glinski said
the most important aspect of the Fair was to "provide a road map for
goals and aspirations. We wanted students to contemplate
different avenues they didn't know were available after high school."
The flight simulator, fashion design booth, culinary institute,
and the auto-tech hot rod were immediate hits with the high school
students. However, the most telling student comment of the day was that
this experience "helped me decide to go on to college after high
school." All of the participants and schools are anxiously
looking forward to the Second Annual Fair.
Fair sponsors included Linda O'Dell, Gila Co. Superintendent, Gila Co.
Board of Supervisors, Signal Peak Community Foundation, Dairy Queen,
Globe Gear Up, and the College Prep Academy.
