At the beginning of the 2003-year, Janey sat down one Wednesday night & one Sunday morning to talk with us about what our goals for our group in 2003. We created a list of 4 goals for the year. One of those goals was to go on a mission trip. So, Janey started the planning. We brainstormed things we would like to do, places we would like to go and the times that most of us could go on a mission trip.

After much planning and praying, Janey began organizing a mission trip to the Achena Presbyterian Church in Maud, Oklahoma. Achena is a Native American Presbyterian Church. The next step for planning this mission trip was to have a fund-raiser. We decided to have a church-wide all you can eat spaghetti luncheon on Sunday, March 30^th, 2003. We did all the work! We sat up the tables, decorated the tables, fixed the food, waited on people and cleaned up. You would think cleaning up would be the worst part of the whole thing, if there were a bad part, but it was the best time! That day we took in enough money to cover expenses for the mission trip. That day was also declared Dwight Mission Sunday for our church. We send 10% of the money we raised that day to Dwight Mission. We felt good doing that.

We wanted to teach Vacation Bible School to children. That is what we did! Beginning in early May on Wednesday night’s, we took the week day by day. Each Wednesday night we planned a day. We wanted to have Vacation Bible School for 4 days and then have a fun day on Friday of that week for the Vacation Bible School kids.

Each planning period was an important one. Janey found curriculum for us to use. We made list of things that we need for each day and gave Janey the list. Each day was coming together more and more. One Wednesday night in June, we practiced day one of Vacation Bible School on our own Kids for Christ of our church. Boy, that was not easy! We also had a Sunday afternoon in June for us to practice all the water games on our own Kids for Christ as well. That way when we went to Achena we would be ready!

The week was finally here. One Monday, June 23^rd, 2003, we loaded up in Janey’s car & Adam’s car and went to Achena. The week started out slow with not many kids but by Thursday, we had several.

The church family of Achena fixed us lunch each day following Vacation Bible School for all of us and the kids at Vacation Bible School. They were all very nice and served some delicious food. Monday through Thursday of Vacation Bible School we would leave Achena by 1 p.m. to get back to Ada. Some of us had jobs.

However, Friday was the Fun Day! We took all of the Vacation Bible School kids to the Children’s Museum in Seminole for a morning of fun. It was a blast! After the museum trip, we all went back to the church for an appreciation luncheon to us by the church. It was a great week!

After the appreciation luncheon, we had a fun weekend of our own. We went to Bricktown in OKC to eat dinner that Friday night spent the night at the Hampton Inn in Midwest City and on Saturday we all went to Frontier City.

We had a great mission trip in 2003!
