About the Logo The website logo shows the medicine wheel, the four directions and colors, and the atom. All of these As two-leggeds (humans) living in a physical and spiritual world, we are responsible for relating properly to all our relatives, human and non-human, to the world, and to ourselves. The spirit, soul, body, and mind represent all aspects of a person's life, properly nurtured and balanced in accordance with the original instructions that Creator has given to all peoples and is sometimes referred to as "the way of life." These correspond, respectively, to the spiritual, emotional, physical, and intellectual, which are usually placed in the four directions (east, south, west, north) on the medicine wheel. When the traditional way of life that has sustained a people for centuries is disrupted or attacked, the people suffer. The logo expresses my own desire to bring about healing and restoration. The unseen world of matter and energy is represented by the model of an atom at the center, showing protons in red, neutrons in white, with electrons orbiting around it. The quantum world is incredibly small, about twenty orders of magnitude (1020) smaller than the nucleus of an atom. The atom here is only a metaphor and does not imply that the Universe can be reduced to material objects. The discovery of the quantum about one hundred years ago changed our views of reality. Reality at the quantum level lies not in the particles but with the relationships that exist within the flux of energy and processes of quantum nature. Particles are always in a state of flux; transformations between matter and energy are always occurring and nothing is at rest. As renowned physicist David Bohm discovered a short time before his death, Native (Indigenous) languages are suitable for describing quantum processes because they emphasize relationships, action, movement, and transformation. In contrast, modern languages, including English, are heavily weighted with nouns that emphasize "things" and fragment reality with their subject-verb-object structure. For related comments on the relationship between quantum physics, consciousness, and (Native) languages (i.e., "quantum linguistics"), see Dan Moonhawk Alford's letter to physicist F. David Peat (or navigate there from Moonhawk's website). In that letter Moonhawk makes reference to the science dialogues, which continue to this day and in which I myself have participated since 2002. phil duran |
