This is an original 1971 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 with 136K authenticated, one-owner miles.
I acquired it two years ago from the original owner, who bought it new from the local Mercedes dealer here in Boise (Lyle Pearson Motors).
Finished in two-tone black over silver exterior, with black leather and zebrano wood interior.
It runs fantastic, and the engine, drivetrain, air suspension, etc. are all in great shape.
It will need cosmetic freshening due to faded paint, and some "Grandma" scrapes on the doors, but what a find!
As a little background, the 300SEL 6.3 was born in 1967 as a true factory hot-rod, when some renegade engineers in the Mercedes racing department took the huge 6.3 liter V-8 engine from the "Grosser" 600 limousine and shoe-horned it into the mid-sized 300SEL sedan body.
The result was an instant classic, labeled by Road & Track magazine as "Merely the best sedan in the world".
Performance figures are impressive even today; back then they were simply mind boggling:
0-60 in 6.5 seconds.
Standing 1/4-mile in 14.3 seconds.
Top speed of 137mph.
Faster than a Porsche 911.
All while sitting comfortably upright in a big leather armchair, surrounded by polished chrome and fine wood trim.
