Volunteers are always needed. Caring for rescued animals is an
awesome responsibility- there are no days off or holidays when it comes
to animal care, and we could use all the help we can get. Here are
some of the ways in which you can lend a hand. |
| Interact With Animals - Help
socialize and train them, walk dogs, brush cats, bathe and groom dogs,
transport to/from vet. |
| Labor at the Shelter - Clean
kennels, clean the people bathrooms or the office area, help with
laundry, and/or scoop poop from the yard. |
| Work in Office - Greet
visitors, answer phones, help process paperwork or other office duties. |
| Help with Special Events -
Work at Adopt-A-Pet fairs, golf tournament, Trail of Tails, educational
and community events, such as Oktoberfest or Iris Festival. |
| Special Skill - Do you
have a trade? Computer technician, Carpenter, electrician, dog
trainer, lawn care, veterinarian, other professional areas? Can
you spare an hour or two each week to help? |
| Stop in any day
between 1 pm and 6 pm, Tuesday through Friday or between 10
am and 1 pm on Saturdays and fill out a volunteer
application. An application and volunteer release can
be printed below. |

Small Efforts Add Up |
| Browse garage
sales - When hunting for those one-of-a-kind treasurers,
take a few moments to look for towels or blankets, as well as
usable dog or cat items like leashes and collars that our
shelter can use. |
| Donating rarely
used dog toys and equipment - if your dog doesn't use your
kennel, or didn't like a particular toy you bought, consider
donating the items. |
| Encourage family
and friends to adopt a dog or cat for our shelter. |
| Donate your old
car to our shelter when it comes time to upgrade the family
vehicle. |
| Pick up a second
leash, collar or dish when you get one for your dog and
donate it to the shelter. |
| Set up a snack
bar at work using an honor system, and donate the proceeds
from your sales. |
| Teach children to be kind
to animals. |
|
| Volunteer your skills and
professional services. If you're a lawyer, offer to do
some pro bono legal work for your local shelter. If
construction is your thing, help with building or repair
projects that are always needed at the shelter. |
|
| Above all, don't assume you
are powerless because you don't have a lot of time, money or
influence. All it takes is a good heart and a
willingness to pitch in, bit by bit. |

Donate your empty printer
cartridges or old cell phones. We
recycle these items to earn additional income to support the shelter as
we care for the unwanted and homeless dogs and cats in our community.
