Welcome to my Myers & Currey Roots Site

This site deals with the Myers line from
Nicholas Mias (Myers) who moved from England to Holland and then in 1708 came to America
and settled in the Rhode Island area with most of the Myers families ending up in New York
and Iowa. My maternal Grandmother Curry was from the Myers/Mcleod line from Canada and
Iowa so there is a cross in our family line. Having both sides of my family come from the
same Myers line sure made tracing some of my family roots a lot easier. My paternal
Grandmother was also a Myers but at this time she is appears to be from a different Myers
line.
The Myers/Eldred line has been traced
back thru the royal line and as far back as Julius Caesar's sister. Although all
that information does not appear on this site it can be found elsewhere on the Internet.
The Myers/Eldred family is related, by blood directly or by marriage indirectly, to
11 former Presidents, including John Adams, John Quincey Adams, Theodore and Franklin D.
Roosevelt and even George Bush.
We have had several family members join
the DAR and a couple of our known ancestors to serve in the Revolutionary War were Oliver
Myers & Aaron Aspinwall. As the story goes, Oliver Myers stole horses for George
Washington to use for his troops and served as private under Captians Nathaniel Seeley and
Benjamin Bates, Col. Samuel Herrick's regiment, Vermont troops. Aaron Aspinwall
served and received a pension for service as a private in Capt. Titus Watson's company,
Col. Herman Swift's regiment, Connecticut Troops.
I have been fairly lucky in my research
of the Myers family as I had two Great Great Aunts who did lots of research over the years
and kept really good records and my Mom became keeper of their books so I had lots of
information to get started with. If Carrie and Fannie had only had the resources
that we have available today, I can't imagine how much would now be known about our
family.
When I was little I learned that my
ancestry was English - Yankee, French Canadian, Scotch - Irish and Pennsylvania Dutch and
it has been fun finding out where all those different bloods flowed from.
I hope you can find the family link you
are looking for and I am always willing to trade files or tell you what I know or don't
know. Be sure and let me know if you turn out to be a cousin....

I would like to thank Carrie
Bodensteiner for all her help with the Eldred line, it was fun finding a not too distant
cousin I didn't know I had out in cyberspace and while doing my own research I also found
some cousins I had lost track of 30 years ago the Internet truly does makes this a small
world.
