Amber Waves is a troupe specializing in American Tribal
Style Bellydance. Based in Fargo, North Dakota, we are North
Dakota's only tribal style group.
American Tribal Style Bellydance is a relative newcomer to the
bellydance scene, developed in California in the 70s and 80s.
My favorite definition comes from the Tribal Style documentary
page:

belly-dance (bl-dns) v. :
1. n : Made
most famous by Carolina Nericcio and Fat Chance of San Francisco
California. The style is a fusion of Egyptian hip work with Flamenco
arm positions and Turkic torso undulations / stomach movements. Dances
are usually done as Group or troupe. The dances are highly structured
improvisation. Costuming is a fusion of Central Asian, North African,
Afghan and Anatolian folk dance costume elements (silver jewelry and
cotton or wool tassels) with East Indian Choli tops and full skirts
with wide shalwar. Tribal Style mixes many authentic elements in a
modern movement and fusion.
We take FatChanceBellyDance as our
primary
inspiration for technique.
