Mixed-Level Classes
There are no classes this
summer. Cherish needs to rest her tassle belt. Please join
us in the fall, though!
Beginning August 27th
Choreography Class Thursday at the NDSU
Wellness Center
This class is intended for those who are new to bellydance and
enjoy having a structured practice. One choreography will be
taught each semester. After the choreography is learned, time
will be spent learning improvisational dancing similar to what is
taught at the Perham classes.
Classes at the Perham Area Community
Center
These classes cover the posture,
movements and technique used in
tribal-style bellydancing (Amber Waves style). Students are
introduced to group
improvisational structure. Movements increase flexibility and strength
in the back, stomach, hips, legs and arms. Advanced students will
work on layering, combinations and finger cymbals. All students
will work on leading and following in group formations.
All ages and fitness
levels are welcome. Drop-ins are welcome. The class
material is different each week and doesn't require any previous
knowledge or experience.
Clothing should be comfortable exercise clothing (such as a t-shirt and
sweat pants) or bellydance clothing (skirt, pantaloons and
choli). A
hipscarf is recommended. Foot wear can be dance shoes or
socks. Advanced students must bring finger cymbals.
Location and Cost
Wellness Center classes are
free for NDSU students and $6 for
off-campus attendees. The Wellness Center is on the corner of
18th St. and Centennial Blvd. in Fargo. Parking is on the north
side and is free on Sundays. For a map, click here.
When you enter the building, just ask to pay the guest rate ($6) and go
upstairs to the group fitness room. (Don't tell them that you're
there for the bellydancing class because they sometimes don't have
things on the schedule.)
Perham Area Community Center
classes are generally $10 for a 2 hour class. Occassionally there
will be a free workshop (about 3 times per year). There is also
an ongoing study group. If interested in participating in this,
please email me and I
will pass on your info to the coordinator.
