Mark Hubbs - Civil War Field Artillery
Slides and video showing the different types of Civil War field artillery pieces will be presented. The deployment of the various types of artillery as well as the mechanics of sighting, aiming, fuse setting, loading and firing will be discussed. The various ranges and effectivenesses of the different types of weapons will be compared.


Mark E. Hubbs served as a U.S. Army Infantry Officer for 12 years. Mr. Hubbs then worked as a contract environmental analyst and archaeologist for the US Army and traveled extensively in the Pacific basin performing environmental and archaeological site surveys at such places as Kwajalein Atoll, Wake Island, Midway Island, the Aleutian Islands and interior Alaska. Mr. Hubbs currently serves as the Senior Historian for the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command at Redstone Arsenal, AL. He received his BA in History from Henderson State University in Arkansas, and holds a master's in Archaeology & Heritage from Leicester University, UK and a master's in Environmental Management from Samford University, AL.
His personal historical interests center on 18th and 19th Century military history with an emphasis on uniforms, small arms and artillery. He is a member of the Company of Military Historians and the Brigade of the American Revolution. He has participated in living history demonstrations and reenactments for the last 35 years.
