KAHFH began the first steps to becoming
a Habitat affiliate in thesummer of 1995. We actually became a
recognized affiliate in 1996. The founder of KAHFH was John Settlage,
who placed an ad in the local paper for those interested in forming a
local Habitat affiliate in Kirksville. Those who were interested
were directed to attend a meeting held at Settlage'shouse. The
night of the meeting, he had a room full of people enthusiastic and ready
to help make Habitat a reality in Kirksville. A steering committee
was formed and much time and effort was involved in getting the affiliate
established. In December of 1998 , KAHFH held its first house dedication.
- In August of 2000, KAHFH held its second house dedication.
- In September of 2001, KAHFH started construction of Houses #3 and House #4 on property donated to KAHFH by the City of Kirksville. In March, 2003, construction was completed on house#3, with Gary and Diane Harrison as the happy new homeowners. In June, 2003, construction was completed on house#4, with Shirley Dennis as its happy new owner.
- In September of 2005, KAHFH dedicated its fifth house in the Kirksville
Area, with Mindy Garrett and her family as the thrilled new owners.
