Installation

'1 Button Pro' is a simple tool to launch your favorite applications using up to 4 of your hardware buttons.

Installation:

1. Installing this software means you agree to the license terms.
2. Please install the following files, using the Hotsync Install Tools:

   	1Button+        -- main application
   	1BHelp1         -- helper application to make sure LEFT MOST Button is accurate
   	1BHelp2         -- helper application to make sure LEFT Middle Button is accurate
   	1BHelp3         -- helper application to make sure RIGHT Middle Button is accurate
   	1BHelp4         -- helper application to make sure RIGHT MOST Button is accurate
   	1BCenter       -- required for launching by a PRESS/HOLD of the 5 Way Navigator center button
   	If you don't install the Helper Applications, the wrong LAUNCH screen can show up on a single button press.
   	If you are installing on Kyocera 7135, please read the readme in the Kyocera directory.

Directions:

1. Select the BUTTON that you wish to configure.  The buttons are numbered 1-4 from left to right.

   

2. Each BUTTON will be assigned an ACTION.  ACTIONS are:

   

   	Launch Apps - when a button that has ACTION=Launch Apps is pressed, a launch screen will be displayed with your choices of applications.  To advance to the next application on the screen, just press the same button again.
   	App Button - when a button that has ACTION=App Button is pressed, the "selected" application will immediately launch.  This "selected" application will remain until the next time you use 1 Button Pro and launch a different application.  This mapping also allows your selected application to still take advantage of the specific 'button' features built into that application.   For example, 'Palm To Do' will switch categories.  'Palm Date Book' will switch views.  'Palm Mail' will scroll through the next email.
   	Disabled - if you want to leave this button mapped as it already is, or set it back to the orginal mapping.

3. Now select the appropriate ACTION you desire:  Launch Apps or APP Button.   Launch Apps is usually the choice.  When you assign applications to the buttons, "Launch Apps" is automatically configured for that button.
4. If ACTION = "Launch Apps" is selected, select the appropriate TIMEOUT to wait for launch of selected application.   As mentioned above, the APP button can immediately launch, but there are other options.

   

   Other methods to launch the application include:

   	Press the 'APP' button to launch immediately.
   	For devices with a JogDial (Sony Clie, Handspring Treo), press the JogDial in.
   	For devices with keyboard, press space bar.
   	Tap on the Icon.
   	If the timeout is IMMEDIATE, you will toggle into the circular list of applications with each button press.

   If the TIMEOUT is set to Immediate, 1 Button Pro will skip the display of the launch screen and immediately launch the next application in the list.  The list will continually rotate.

   If the TIMEOUT is set to Never, 1 Button Pro will stay will the launch screen displayed until one of the stated launch methods happens.

5. If you wish to display a background picture on the launch screen, you are able to use a photo viewer application to display the picture that 1 Button will take a 'snap shot' screen capture of.

   	Find the picture using a photo viewer.
   	In 1 Button Pro, select CUSTOM
   	Now select to delay timer that you need to locate the picture again.
   	Display the picture using your photo viewer.  Wait for the timer to expire.
   	1 Button will automatically capture the current screen display and store the file.
   	1 Button will automatically launch back again.

6. If you wish to display your Datebook or ToDo list as the background:

   	Select DYNAMIC
   	Select the Application that you wish to have displayed
   	Select the refresh frequency
   	Select if you prefer for the background immediately under the icon to be erased.
   	Select if you want any screen taps ON THE BACKGROUND, to be immediately sent to the Dynamic Application
   	Now, you are ready.  You might want to arrange the 'Icon Positions' to make the display more friendly.

7. Now select "ASSIGN APPLICATIONS" to choose your favorite applications for each LAUNCH button folder.  Each LAUNCH button folder can have up to 9 applications assigned to them.  Now select your favorite applications, and assign them to a button.

   

   For special configuration, selected ADVANCED button.

   

8. If Application Ordering is set FIXED, '1 Button Pro' will not keep sorting the applications in MOST RECENTLY USED order. 3 button presses will always launch the same app.

9. If Lock Original App is enabled, then the Applications that were assigned to the buttons will be the first application to show in the list of '1 Button' applications.  This allows you to keep the built in standard PIM applications as the first application in the list, with your other favorite applications behind them.

   For certain OS5 devices, the following features MAY be available (depending on capabilities of the device)

10. Special Launch Shortcuts are alternative ways to enter the 1 Button Pro Launch screens.  The options are:  5WayNav Center Button OR Voice Button.

    The 5 Way Navigator can be enabled such that if you PRESS/HOLD, for 2 seconds, the center button (on a device with the 5Way Navigator), this will immediately launch into 1 Button Pro.  This is useful if you have the plastic cover on the device and don’t have access to one of the 4 launch buttons.  Navigate between launcher screens with the left/right button, and select the desired application with the up/down buttons.  You can change the operation of the left/right/up/down buttons by selecting the NAVIGATION button. Launch the application with a quick press on the center button.  If you are in 1 Button Pro and wish to go to the Palm OS launcher, just again PRESS/HOLD the center button.  Tapping on the graffiti ‘HOME’ icon will always bring you to Palm OS launcher.

11. The Command Toolbar is a shortcut method to get access to special functions of the application or the device, such as CUT, PASTE, BEAM, DELETE.  With some new devices coving the graffiti space with a slide cover, you have found you have lost access to the graffiti keyboard, find, and STAR icon.  1 Button Pro allows those features as well as Menu to be placed into the command toolbar.  If the user selects ‘Disable 1BPro’ from the command toolbar, it is ONLY TEMPORARILY disabled, till the next time 1B Pro is used.  This might be needed if some application (game) needs access to the buttons that 1B Pro uses as it’s short cut to bring up the command toolbar. 

    ***The shortcut to display the command toolbar is:  Press/Hold any 1 Button Pro launch key.  After about 1 second, the command toolbar will be displayed on the bottom of the screen.  You will have a choice of icons to select from.

12. Use of this launcher is now ready.  Press the respective 1 BUTTON once, and your folder applications are displayed. 

    	Continue pressing the 1 BUTTON until you have the desired application icon highlighted.
    	You can also use the UP/DOWN arrows to select the application icon.
    	You can also use the JogDial/Rocker switch button (Sony Clie or Handspring Treo) to select the application.

Frequently Asked Questions:

1Q:    Does 1 Button Pro work with other 3rd party launchers?

A:    Yes,  but with v3.x you must have the Advanced feature of "5 Way Nav Center Launches" disabled.  If this feature is enabled, 1BPro effectively keeps disabling the 3rd party launcher.

A:    BUT.  In v3.2 you can enable the Advanced feature of "Voice Button Launches" and get the same functionality and maintain the functionality for recording.  A PRESS/HOLD does the record.  A short press launches into 1BPro.

**Advanced features for shortcut launching are currently only available on Tungsten T device)

2Q:    What does the APP BUTTON do?

A:    The App Button has 2 functions:  1- Pressing the designated APP button will immediately launch the currently selected favorite application instead of waiting for the auto timeout launch.   2- Once the favorite application is running, this App Button is still mapped to your favorite application.  Some applications have special features that are associated with continued pressing on the button that launched the application.  For example:  To Do list will change categories, Email will advance to next email, and Calendar will change views.

Do NOT confuse APP BUTTON as the ACTION that launches INTO 1 B Pro.  APP Button is used to EXIT 1B Pro.

Other methods to launch the applications are:

1. Allow the timeout to expire once the desired application is chosen.
2. Press the space bar on device with keyboard.(doing a graffiti space character also works)
3. Press the jogdial/rocker switch on device (Treo, Clie, ..)
4. Press the icon on the screen.
5. Press the Center button on 5 Way Navigator on device (Tungsten   m550)

3Q:      How can I set a specific order for “Fixed Order” of applications?

A:    I don’t have a feature to sort, but there are 2 methods to accomplish it.  For “Fixed Order”, the launch sequence can be set in one of 2 ways.

1. If already setup, select the “most recently used order” and get the apps in the order you want, the lock them with “fixed order”. Select the last application first, let it launch, then select the next to last application, let it launch, and keep repeating.
2. Disable all apps from 1 button at a time.  Then select the apps in the order you want.  If you have “1 button pro”, then repeat to the next button.
    
   Neither of the above is a feature, it is just how the program works to create the “fixed order”

4Q:      Why does the wrong LAUNCH screen come up with I push a LAUNCH button.   The 2nd time I push the same button, then the correct LAUNCH screen comes up.

A:    Please install the 4 - 1Bhelp.prc files.  These 4 files make sure that each button pulls up the appropriate LAUNCH screen.

5Q:      When I use the Voice button or the 5Way Nav Center to launch 1BPro, why does the wrong LAUNCH screen come up.

A:    Please configure:   Settings/Advanced/Navigation and set the default launch screen.

6Q:      How do I change the Wallpaper Background pictures?

1. To view a picture, select CUSTOM. 

   	Now select the time frame you need to find the picture you wish to capture.
   	After you select OK, now immediately go find the picture using your picture viewer.
   	After the timeout, 1B Pro will take a screen snap shot of the 'current' screen and save it.

2. To view your Datebook or ToDo list or some other dynamic data, select DYNAMIC.

   	Select the name of the application you wish to view the default screen on.
   	If you wish for screen taps to SEEM to be active for the application while in 1B Pro, enable 'live screen taps'
   	Now select the frequency of refreshing the screen.

3. Currently Sony Clie OS 4 is not supported, but OS 5 is.

7Q:      Can I set one application up on multiple launch screens?

A:    Yes, but not easily.  The only method would take place of the LOCK ORIGINAL APP feature.  You can't do both.

1. First disable each launch screen that you wish to place this application on.  Do this ONLY by setting the Action to DISABLED.  
2. Press DONE,  A warning might be displayed telling you to setup at least 1 app.  Ignore this.
3. Press HOME, to get to the Palm OS launcher.  Now launch PREFS
4. Select Buttons
5. Now for each button that you wish to have this specific application on, set it up here.
6. Now we can re-enable the 1 Button Pro buttons
7. Now enable LOCK ORIGINAL APP.  You special application will now show always as the first app on each of the launch screens.

8Q:      Why does my registration code not work?

A:    Actually, the MOST common reason is:  You bought 1 Button Launcher for $10, but your are using 1 Button Pro ($20).  You can either download 1 Button Launcher and use the Reg Code you have, OR upgrade.

A:    Once you have verified the version you bought and the version you are using AND verified you entered the code correctly:  in the Registration screen, please enter:   ?      as the registration code, and send the string displayed to me.   Also send the Hotsync ID as displayed in the registration screen.

If you did purchase the $10 1 Button Launcher and wish to use the PRO $20 version, you have 2 options to upgrade:

1. Use www.paypal.com and send $10 to EvansSoftware@cableone.net, then I will send you the PRO reg code.
2. Use www.handango.com or www.palmgear.com to purchase another $10 version, then I will send you the PRO reg code.

9Q:      What are my methods to Launch my applications?

A:    Depending on the device you have, you probably have many choices:

1. Set a LAUNCH timeout for the respective button.  Once timeout to expires after the desired application is chosen.
2. Press the space bar on device with keyboard.(doing a graffiti space character also works)
3. Press the jogdial/rocker switch on device (Treo, Clie, ..)
4. Press the icon on the screen.
5. Press the Center button on 5 Way Navigator on device (Tungsten   m550)
6. Set one of the button's Action to APP_BUTTON.  The other buttons will be used to get into the 1 Button Pro launch screens.  Now once you have selected the application, you can press the designated APP_BUTTON to immediately launch this application.

10Q:   I already own 1 Button Pro, can I upgrade to current version?

A:    Currently, Yes.   Maybe some day I will charge, but I plan on keeping free upgrades.  I would appreciate any 'word of mouth' recommendations to your friends that might have use for this product.  Click here to download.

11Q:   Why would I set the Launch Timeout to NEVER or IMMEDIATE?

A:    NEVER would be used if you are not comfortable with the AUTO LAUNCH and prefer to choose one of the various Launch Methods.

A:    IMMEDIATE would be used if you had a short list of applications, and wanted the button press to launch directly to the next application in the list.  This option does NOT display the Launch Screens.

12Q:   What purpose is the Navigation Screen?

A: The Navigation Screen allows the user to customize that functions when using the 5 Way Navigation arrows/buttons. 

On default, the UP/DOWN changes launch screens, but the other option allows UP/DOWN to change the row selection in the respective launch screen.

If 'Left Rolls to Previous Screen' is enabled, if the first application in the list is highlighted, and you press the left arrow, the launch screen will change.

13Q:   What is the 'Icon Positions' used for?  Can I arrange the Icons to see the wallpaper background better?

A: You can change the Icon Positions so that the Icons are not covering the part of the wallpaper background that you wish to see.   If you disable an icon position, this will decrease the maximum # of applications viewable on the launch screen.
