Warning Description: Coastal Flood Warning, Coastal Flood Watch

Warning Date: 4:29 am CST on November 8, 2009

WarningSum:...Coastal Flood Watch Now In Effect Through This Evening...

Warning Message:...Coastal Flood Warning in effect from midnight tonight to noon
CST Tuesday...
The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a coastal
Flood Warning...which is in effect from midnight tonight to noon
CST Tuesday. The coastal Flood Watch is now in effect through
this evening. 
Residents and interests along the coast are urged to make
preparations for moderate to significant inundation that may last
for 2 to 3 days as tides rise above normal to as high as 4 to 5
feet tonight and 5 to 6 feet on Monday. Tides are still expected
to be 3 to 4 feet above normal through Tuesday morning...especially
along east facing shores in St Bernard and Plaquemines Parish...
and along Hancock County. Currently...tides are running about 1
foot above normal. 
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A coastal Flood Watch means that conditions favorable for
flooding are expected to develop. Preparedness actions should
include removal of machinery...vehicles and other movable
property out of areas prone to coastal flooding as soon as
possible. Access roads into tidal marshes...marinas and area
camps are likely to become inundated and impassible for lengthy
periods during the day Sunday and continuing through Tuesday.
Some minor inundation may be realized as early as today.
Stay tuned to local TV...radio...NOAA all-hazards radio or the
internet for the latest on this potential coastal flooding
episode. A coastal Flood Warning may be issued for portions of
the coast at any time through Tuesday morning.
A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water...and take appropriate action to protect life
and property.

Warning Message:The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a high
wind watch...which is in effect from Monday evening through
Tuesday morning. 
Northeast winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 50 mph can be
expected Monday night into Tuesday morning as Ida moves across the
north central Gulf of Mexico and then turns northeast away from
southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A high wind watch means there is the potential for a hazardous
high wind event. Sustained winds of at least 40 mph...or gusts of
58 mph or stronger may occur. Continue to monitor the latest
forecasts.
