Does sugar cause diabetes?

No. Most often people think of table sugar (sucrose) as one food to avoid because of this myth. Sucrose is only one form of carbohydrate and no type of carbohydrate will cause diabetes. Besides closely monitoring their intake of carbohydrate to keep glucose levels in check, people who have diabetes need to pay attention to the whole diet. In many cases, a healthful diet, combined with exercise and maintaining a healthy weight, will be sufficient to control diabetes. Common symptoms of diabetes are frequent urination, excessive thirst, and unexplained weight loss. If you suspect that you may have diabetes, be sure to contact your physician.
