Forever Healthy
Kevin Kelly, L.R.D.
I have tried many diets over the years. I follow the diet for the time specified or until I have lost weight. Every time I stop a diet, I gain the weight back. What can I do?
Stop dieting! You will never go "on a diet" again if you make some positive dietary changes right now. The bottom line is that diets don’t work. Most people think a diet means food deprivation and starvation. A diet simply consists of the food each of us eats on a daily basis. People should not be "on a diet"; instead, people have a diet. The countless fad diets that come and go are so restrictive and unrealistic that they can’t be followed for very long. These diets are a temporary fix and weight is lost only because people eat less food for a short period of time and/or they are exercising. When people stop following one of these trendy diets, the weight comes back because they return to old eating habits. The solution is to establish new eating habits that you can live with the rest of your life. Don’t deprive yourself of foods you enjoy! Instead, moderate your food intake by making better food choices.
