In recent months, news reports have indicated that nutrition supplements may be harmful to our health. Why is this?
Nutrition is an evolving science and it takes a long time to draw a fairly solid conclusion on how the nutrients in food affect our health. If one single study shows a possible connection to a nutrient in food, then it isn't long until that nutrient shows up in pill form. Besides being very preliminary, many of these studies were flawed. Newer, credible research is showing that when large doses of some nutrients are taken in pill form that problems may occur. Since the amounts of nutrients found in food aren't a concern, we should establish a healthful diet first and then supplement responsibly if necessary.
