Forever Healthy
Kevin Kelly, L.R.D.

My ten year old daughter is over weight. I am considering putting her on a diet. What are your thoughts?

Before any changes are made to your child's diet, you should see a dietitian and/or your pediatrician. Too many people are "dieting" today and this frequently leads to unhealthy eating habits. Children's nutritional needs are different compared to adults because they are growing. We all need to realize that a diet simply consists of the food we eat. No one is "on" a diet; instead, we all have a diet. Our food choices make up our diet. Having your daughter learn how to establish a sound diet now increases the chances of good eating habits later in life. Good eating habits lead to a healthier body.
