What is the Catabolic Diet?

This diet is an old gimmick that has been repackaged. Several years ago, there was a widely circulated list of 19 foods that cause weight loss. (No food causes weight loss). This newer version of the Catabolic Diet now includes over 100 foods that "work three times faster than starvation" with an average daily weight loss of one pound. In fact, the diet claims that the more you eat, the more weight you will lose. Just add some of these "negative calorie" foods to your usual meal and watch the pounds of fat disappear. All of this appeals to people who are trying to lose weight. The Catabolic Diet is glitzy, glamorous, offers instant gratification, and it requires no effort. While some weight is lost in the short term due to unreasonable food restriction, this fad diet, just like all fad diets, is not a solution to weight loss. Safe and effective weight loss that is permanent involves individual effort. Isn't your health worth establishing good dietary and exercise regimens?
