IRLP Operating Guide

After tuning your radio to the node frequency and setting the PL tone, operation of the IRLP is accomplished by using the DTMF touch pad. A full listing of IRLP nodes worldwide, can be found at: IRLP Network at a Glance This webpage will optionally list all of the active Reflectors or all of the IRLP nodes, and can be sorted by node number, location, callsign etc..

Once you've chosen your destination, announce your station ID on the local node and enter the node number for the node you wish to contact.

Since you will likely be connecting to a repeater system, it is very important for you to listen for a few seconds to make sure you are not interupting a conversation in progress. When the frequency is clear, announce your callsign and location, and finally call your party or ask for a QSO.

It is a very important protocal while on the IRLP to PAUSE!! You will need to make a practice to pause for 2 seconds between tansmissions and 1 second after keying your radio, before speaking. This allows other stations to connect or disconnect, and allows the system to make the necessary connections.

At the completion of you connection, simply enter "73" with you DTMF pad and listen for the disconnect announcement.

That's all there is!

There are also several special functions available on this node, that can be accessed via your touchtone pad. Enter the code, listed below, and unkey your radio and these will automatically run.

This is a current listing of DTMF functions for BOTH IRLP Node 8310 and 3050. These features will change as new options are added, so check this list from time to time.

0 This function checks the status of the local node. You will hear an announcement "Node Clear" or "You are currently connect to....
*1 This is like Call Waiting. It will announce the node number and time for the last incoming and outgoing calls.
*2 This function will announce the local time.
*3 This function will randomly select and automatically connect to another node. A fun way to go exploring.
*4 This function will randomly select one of the many Reflectors and automatically connect. This allows you to join in with other nodes for multiple contacts and roundtable QSO's.
*5 This function will announce the local time for the node your currently connected to. It's nice to know what time it is, around the world.
*6 This function will announce the number of incoming connections for this node. Just a way of knowing how much the system is being used.
*7 This function is not available at this time.
73 Use this to disconnect the node from any connection and return it to the standby mode.
