Staying Home
by John Schuderer
My wife, Barbara, had for quite some time been scheduled to attend an education conference in Washington D.C. One day while having lunch with my best friend, he suggested I tag along with Barbara to Washington for a mini vacation. I thought this was an excellent idea. When I discussed it with her, Barbara indicated she had already made arrangements to share a room with some of her fellow travelers. We decided that I wouldn't be going to Washington. This wasn't a major disappointment for me as I have been to Washington two times previously.
Well, as it turned out, the week that Barbara was in Washington was when Noel died. I found Noel on Thursday night. Had I gone to Washington with Barbara we wouldn't have found him until Sunday! I now believe God knew I would be needed here at home so it was never intended for me to go to Washington with Barbara.
