·         12/06/2009   NEW   PENS members work to improve metro area skiing
PENS Board members worked over the summer and fall to draft position statements on ski related topics for both Fargo and Moorhead Parks based on feedback from club members.  The position statements were used this fall at meetings with representatives from both park districts to facilitate discussions.  Jeff Quam met with Moorhead and John Pfund and Greg Haugen met with Fargo Parks representatives.  The meetings were productive with both short term and long term goals discussed.

The Kickoff meeting was held at Edgewood Chalet today.  Several new members attended and a number of existing members came out and renewed their membership.  A group worked on our a fund raiser to prep and inventory the rental equipment for $3 per pair.  66 pairs of skis were cleaned and paste wax applied.  The inventory of skis, boots and poles will facilitate making sure adequate sizes of skis, boots and poles will be available for the ski lessons in the future.  The annual trail walk and cleanup was not held due to the wet conditions on the river trail.

·        9/14/2009  PENS Membership Year begins 0ctober 1, 2009
Renew your membership today, or join for the first time!  This year club dues have been set at $25.  If your paid membership is received by December 1st, 2009, you can get an early bird rate of $20 dollars!  So please get your memberships in before the snow flies by mailing in the Membership Form linked above.  A limited selection of hats and headbands are still available for purchase by paid members, and we are planning a new club promotional item for this year.  Some of the other benefits of membership are access to the club’s Yahoo discussion group and periodic newsletters.  Here is a link to last year’s December Newsletter.  The primary goal of PENS is still to be a unified voice to promote better skiing opportunities in the area.  To that end, the PENS board has presented a Position Statement to Fargo Parks and plans to work with Parks on continuing the improvements seen in skiing over the last few years.  A similar approach is being taken with Moorhead Parks.  Our other goal is of course to have fun!  If you have a Yahoo account, you can view our calendar of events and activities (linked above), even if you are not a club member.  If there is an activity you are interested in, please feel free to contact us!  If you don’t have a Yahoo account, check back here for updates on club meetings and activities.
