My name is John J. Kovach and I live in Biloxi, Mississippi the birthplace of "The Mad Potter of Biloxi" George E. Ohr and his pottery. I started collecting pottery a few years ago, McCoy, Van Briggle and mostly Shearwater. In November 2001 I went to The Peter Anderson Festival in Ocean Springs, Mississippi and watched potters make pottery on site. It was fascinating to say the least. Then I started thinking, why not learn how to make pottery myself? If I succeeded then I could start collecting my own stuff. WOW! What a paradox! That's how MUDDYwater Creations began. |

I began taking a pottery course at the end of February 2002 and immediately liked what I saw. My pottery teacher's name was Steve Burtt. He's been doing pottery for 14+ years now and knows all aspects of what a potter should know. Hopefully, my skills will improve as time pushes on and maybe one day I'll be as good as he is. I can only hope. Naturally, everything you see here is ONE OF A KIND since they are all hand-thrown originals. If an item sells and you just have to have one too, I might be able to closely remake the item again through sheer determination and the thought of some good 'ol American dollars coming my way. All my pottery incorporates glazes that are perfectly safe when used with food products. They are oven, microwave and dishwasher safe. My pottery can be both decorative or functional. This decision is left up to you. |

I set up a small studio in the rear of my garage in a small unused utility room and soon I was off and running on my own. I am not currently taking classes anymore due to other pressing issues. I do hope to return soon though for the inspiration and of course ... the girls! I hope you enjoy my site and what I'm trying to do. |
