Training In today's fast changing world, perhaps the most important element for success will be the management of learning. Many feel that organizations have an obligation to provide training and development for employees. IDI believes that training will benefit not just to the individual contributor but the organization itself. The health and well-being of organizations will not only become more and more important to each of us as individual workers but as consumers and even as citizens of the world. This has never been as true as it is today, and it has never been more difficult. In the United States we are losing competitiveness in industry after industry. Most corporations don't live as long as a person - they die before the age of forty. Only 10% of small businesses survive the first year. In the next two decades, as the baby boomers retire, the number of workers left in the work force will diminish. There exists critical weaknesses in major institutions that are required to support organizational effectiveness. One that we all are riveted on at this time is education. Globalism is winning over nationalism, which raises our dependence on other countries. These facts, plus a myriad of others, have forced organizations to take a new look at their infrastructures and the way they generally do business. Peter Senge , author of the Fifth Discipline , The Art and Practice of the Learning Organization , states that most organizations have learning disabilities. The most successful organization of the future will be a "learning organization", one that expects its employees to grow and change -- constantly.
