NGC 6822, Barnards Galaxy,  Sagittarius


NGC 6822 is a dwarf irregular galaxy belonging to the local group of galaxies.  Its rougly 1.7 million light years distant.  It's magnitude 11 but easiest to see with low power, wide field eyepieces.  Several blue nebulous regions can be seen left and right of the north part of the galaxy.  Also a reddish bubble of gas is just north west of the northern tip.  See the high resolution image for a better view of these features.
