Crock Pot / Dutch Oven Beans

We learned how to make this at a Dutch Oven class put on by George Siegel and Marv Hepworth (which was great fun by the way!). In keeping with the tradition of the class we have halfed the recipe, but doubled the amount of garlic!!! Since we don't have a dutch oven of our own we decided to try it in the crock pot and found that it is just as good and easier to clean up!

Ingredients you will need:
  • 1/2 lb Ground Beef
  • 1/4 lb Bacon
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 Cloves Garlic
  • 1/2 Cup Molasses
  • 1/2 Cup BBQ Sauce
  • 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 Cup Ketchup
  • 1/8 Cup Prepared Mustard
  • 1 Can Pork & Beans
  • 1 Can Kidney Beans
  • 1 Can Pinto Beans
  • 1 Can White Beans

The steps:

Brown ground beef and bacon. Add onion and saute till onions are softened slightly. Mix in rest of the ingredients except for the beans and stir. Drain fluid from beans and reserve to use as needed if beans are too thick. Add beans and stir. For Crock Pot: cook on low 10-12 hours; high, for 4-5 hours. For a 12" Dutch Oven: simmer over 9-10 coals with 15 coals on top. Cooking time is 45-60 minutes, and are done when the aroma drives you crazy and the crew is begging to eat.
