Ministry Teams
Faith's ministry teams are the "hands and feet" of the church. Ministry teams do everything from ensuring the church building is heated to planning worship services. Ministry teams are the best way any member can be part of fulfilling the church's mission.
ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL -
- Responsible for the program and administration of the church
- Meets monthly during school year or as necessary
- Members include elected officers, committee & work area chairpersons and members at large
- Evaluates and sets goals
- Open to all members of the congregation
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION -
- Responsible for the Christian educational ministry of the church for all ages in cooperation with the pastor
- Recruits, trains and supports Sunday School teachers
- Organizes "Teacher Dedication" Sunday at the beginning of the school year and "Teacher Recognition" Sunday in May
- Orders curriculum through the church office
- Organizes and implements Vacation Bible School
- Cooperates with pastor for confirmation program
- Cooperates with pastor giving third graders their Bibles
- Evaluates program
- Ex-officio members include Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School secretary, library representative
- This committee will consider special needs as they arise with the changing circumstances of the church and society
FELLOWSHIP -
- Oversees "Coffee Fellowship" following worship
- Provides cake on the monthly "Birthday" Sundays
- Plans and hosts special events, such as Valentine's Dinner, Spring Fling, Homecoming Potluck, etc.
FINANCE -
- Compiles annual budget for the congregation.
- Monitors expenses
- Conducts the annual pledge and stewardship drive
- Interprets to the congregation the financial needs of the church
- Meets monthly during school year
- Ex-officio members include lay member of the annual conference, chairperson of Administrative Council, Trustee representative, lay leader, financial secretary, treasurer
FINANCIAL SECRETARY -
- Counts weekly offering
- Makes deposits
- Keeps pledge records
GLOBAL MISSIONS -
- Interprets and promotes the ongoing mission of the church
- Seeks to inform and make appropriate response to social issues
- Urges support of local missions such as the Holiday Clearing Bureau, Emergency Food Pantry, Churches United for the Homeless Sunday brunch, as well as national and world mission projects through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)
LAY LEADER -
- Person(s) who work with the pastor and congregation in providing effective ministry and program
- Meets regularly with pastor to discuss and evaluate what is happening in the life of the church
LAY MEMBER -
- Our congregation's representative at Annual Conference and chief interpreter of conference program to the congregation
LIBRARY/RESOURCE CENTER -
- Members meet regularly to maintain our library, update collection, keep records current
- Provides information to users through poster and newsletters about new items
- As a sub-committee of Education, chair serves as a liason on Education meetings. Evaluates needs for materials for education
MEMBERSHIP/OUTREACH -
- Seeks to involve the people in the church with each other
- Contacts new persons who worship with us
- Monitors attendance
- Assists pastor with new member orientation
- Serves meal to confirmands, parents and mentors in the spring
- Monitors the general "tone" of the church members
- Care Group is a sub-committee
MEMORIALS -
- Plans for the use of monies given as Memorial Gifts to the church
- Suggests memorial projects
- Meets occasionally as needed
- Acknowledges memorial gifts
WORSHIP MINISTRY -
- Oversees these areas of the church's life
- Works on special seasonal decorations, banners, floral arrangements
- Helps plan and set up special services
- Communion committee is a sub-committee
- Responsible for securing & training greeters, ushers, acolytes, lay readers
- Hosts "Hanging of the Greens" event to decorate church for Advent/Christmas
- Hosts "Soup & Sandwich Supper" on Ash Wednesday
- Works with Music Director(s) for worship music
NOMINATIONS -
- Responsible for finding persons to serve on all of these committees, ministry teams and official positions in the church
- Meets mostly in the fall of the year
STAFF-PARISH RELATIONS -
- Five to nine persons who confer and counsel with the pastor and staff in making effective ministry
- Relates concerns of the congregation to pastor
- Interprets to congregation the nature of the ministry of the church
- Makes annual review or pastor and staff salaries and performance
TREASURER -
- Pays the bills of the church
- Keeps accurate record of income and expenses
- Regularly reports to congregation
TRUSTEES -
- Committee of at least nine persons who supervise the church property, including the parsonage
- Provide for maintenance and upkeep, working with custodian
- Responsible for insurance coverage and legal matters concerning property
- Meets monthly or as necessary
