Arm Amputee Video
"THE
USE OF UPPER EXTREMITY PROSTHESES"
I produced a teaching video entitled ''THE USE OF UPPER EXTREMITY PROSTHESES'' which was designed to help arm amputees see what can be accomplished with artificial arms. I am a registered occupational therapist (OTR) and a bilateral amputee. The video was professionally produced and covers the following topics:
1. Psycho-social adjustment
2. Levels of amputations
3. Types of prostheses
4. Parts of a prosthesis
5. How the prostheses work
6. Activities of daily living
The 49 minute video (also available on DVD) addresses with humor, creativity, and candor, the "NITTY GRITTY" of life without upper limbs.
The video:
Offers practical solutions to problems encountered by arm amputees.
Boldly answers questions that amputees, families, students, instructors, therapists, nurses, doctors, counselors, and limb manufacturers wonder about but "forget" to ask.
Presents real life practical activities of daily living skills and techniques in a way that teaches.
Shows how a bilateral amputee (right arm above elbow and left arm elbow below elbow) manages a day in his life using body-powered prostheses. It shows how to put on the prostheses, bathe, get dressed, undressed, put on deodorant, shave, toilet duties, eating, cutting meat, dancing, work skills, and practical ADL functions.
Is used world wide as an amputee teaching tool at Rehab Centers, OT, PT, Nursing, Prosthetic and Medical Schools. It is also widely used to teach amputees, family members and therapists what can be accomplished with prostheses.
