Dornick
Hills Golf and Country Club is the Private Country
Club of Southern Oklahoma.
Work
on the Golf Course begun on the west nine in 1913
by Perry Maxwell. Today,
we
have an 18 hole championship, par 70 challenging
golf course. The Land was part of a dairy farm owned
by Maxwell. Work on the Club House began in 1914.
Dornick
Hills enjoys two distinctions. It was Oklahoma's
first golf course with Bermuda grass greens. It
was the first Oklahoma Golf Club to be affiliated
with the United States Golf Association. This occurred
on July 20, 1914 and for the next six years no other
Oklahoma Golf Club enjoyed such a distinction. Before
Perry Maxwell died in 1952, he had designed about
75 golf courses many of which were in Oklahoma.
Some of the other notable courses he designed in
Oklahoma were Twin Hills, Southern Hills, Oakhurst,
Hillcrest and Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.
He also designed Hardscrabble in Ft. Smith, AR,
Prairie Dunes in Hutchison, KS, and Colonial in
Ft. Worth, TX. Mr. Maxwell did a great deal of redesigning.
Some of these were Pine Valley NJ, Westchester,
NY, Maidstone NY, Merion PA, Saucon Valley PA, Augusta
National GA, Cypress Point CA and Brook Hollow TX.
Dornick
Hills has been the site of many tournaments including
the Ardmore Open, a P.G.A. sanction event in 1952-1954.
Golf Digest has named Dornick Hills in the top 5
in Oklahoma several times.
The
first Club House, a wooden structure, was destroyed
by fire in 1944. A two story brick structure was
completed in 1947. The Club House has been remodeled
several times since that date. We also have a separate
Pro Shop with the ladies lounge and locker room
on the second floor.
Dornick
Hills Club House upstairs is spacious and able to
accommodate receptions, business meetings, and in
general, parties of any size. Downstairs, we have
the Maxwell room lounge for more casual entertaining.
Also downstairs is the men's locker room, card room,
and office. Other amenities including a swimming
pool with a convenient snack bar and two lighted
tennis courts.
Our
cuisine is excellent and service found only on older
private enclaves. Our manager with lofty standards
is here to assist members in their planning and
entertainment.
We
think you will agree the view from Dornick Hills
Club House looking north to the Arbuckle Mountains
is the finest in the state. Dornick Hills Golf and
Country Club is owned and managed by the Stockholders.
