Club History

History of the Kiwanis Club of Prescott

1924 - Prescott, Arizona

The Kiwanis Club of Prescott, chartered in 1924, is one of the oldest service clubs in Prescott, Arizona.  From the early days when the Club was very instrumental in the fundraising effort which resulted in the construction of the Hassayampa Inn, our club has been at the center of developments which have assisted the growth and betterment of our community.  Many of our events, which are now annual highlights, have been carried on continuously for over 50 years.  Since it’s inception in 1949, our annual Kiwanis Auction has been among the most successful fund raising events - if not the most successful - in the city, generating a tremendous amount of goodwill for our club as well as funds for the community.

On May 10, 1924, the Charter Night of the Kiwanis Club of Prescott was celebrated.  A representative of the Phoenix club presented the charter to the first president of the Club, R.O. Barrett.  Upon receiving the official document, Barrett said “This is a club that will live up to the Kiwanis motto, We Build.”

He was right.
