Dale Cook has worked with wood for more than
25 years, but it wasn't until 2002 that he began turning out wood with a lathe.
His work begins with the raw product of green wood and involves rough turning,
drying, finish turning and a multi-step finishing process. Although Dale begins
with an initial vision for each piece, the figures and colors of the wood
ultimately influence the finished design. Approximately 6 weeks transpire from
creation to completion.
The distinguishing feature of Dales work is
the finish - often a wet looking shine that highlights the piece and surface
enhancements like dyeing carving, texturing and wood burning.
Dale views his craft as an ongoing process
of perfecting methods and using artistic creation to form unique
pieces.
Dale and his wife Joan in live in Fargo,
N.D. and have two grown sons.
