The Preschool Program at Coast Episcopal School offers young children a nurturing, supportive atmosphere as they make the transition into a slightly more structured learning experience. The primary motivation and highest priority of the program is an understanding of each child and knowledge of his interests and needs. We believe that each child is unique, and we create a stimulating environment where children are encouraged to discover the joys of learning without any undue pressure.

The development point of view’ is a large part of our philosophy at Coast Episcopal Preschool. This means that children’s physical, social, emotional, and intellectual components depend upon and support each other. These components are not separate, and one cannot be developed ahead of the others without upsetting an intrinsic and intricate balance.

We believe that each child demonstrates individual signs of readiness, and these determine when he will learn to master concepts, to read, and to write. We provide age-appropriate guidelines, routines, and responsibilities to help each child develop the security needed to take risks, to formulate a high self-concept, and to create a history of positive learning experiences.

In essence, the individual child is the curriculum at Coast Episcopal Preschool. Carefully chosen materials and resources allow our Preschoolers to observe, manipulate, investigate, discover, and interpret their world through varied and open-ended activities. We subscribe to the philosophy that play is a child’s work and that it is through play that important foundations and life lessons are internalized.
