A public hearing was held before the New Plymouth Planning & Zoning Commission at the New Plymouth City Hall on Monday, February 25, 2008 at 7:03 p.m. Commissioners Tegethoff, Williamson, Byers, Presnell, Nay and Balcer were present. Commissioner Scheihing was absent.

 

Guests included Pat Dickard, Ron Hart and Angela P'Pool.

 

First Baptist Church - Conditional Use Permit Application: Chairman Tegethoff explained that the First Baptist Church was requesting a conditional use permit to allow a parking lot for the two lots north of the church. Chairman Tegethoff explained the public hearing  process and asked for public testimony.

 

Pat Dickard (817 Holly Avenue) testified that he was in favor of the permit and explained that the First Baptist Church had purchased two lots adjacent to the church on Holly Avenue. Mr. Dickard further explained that the homes on the lots had been removed and that they were in the process of clearing the lots. Mr. Dickard explained that the plan for the parking lot included sidewalk on Holly Avenue with curb and gutter, drainage swales, lighting, fencing and the paving of the alleyway.

 

There was discussion regarding the seating capacity of the church and required parking spaces. Commissioner Byers read code 11-12-1A regarding parking space requirements. Chairman Tegethoff expressed his concern with the open sewer drains.

 

Ron Hart (4685 S.E. 1st Ave.) testified that he was in favor of the permit.

 

With no further testimony, Commissioner Williamson made the motion to close the public hearing at 7:28 p.m. Commissioner Byers seconded the motion, which met with full approval.
