Recreation New Plymouth has some of the finest pheasant hunting in Idaho. Duck and goose hunting along the Payette and Snake Rivers is excellent. Deer and large
game hunting areas are within a one or two hour drive. Three large reservoirs provide the area with great spots for boating, water skiing, and other water sports. Both the Payette and Snake
rivers as well as their tributaries provide wonderful experiences for the angler. More remote lakes and streams are a pleasurable drive away. Winter sports can be enjoyed at Bogus Basin, east of
Boise, or Brundage Mountain at McCall. New Plymouth has a fine city park equipped with tables, facilities, and
playground equipment for tourists, picnics, and family outings. Swimming pools and golf courses are located in neighboring cities. The city also has
basketball courts; athletic fields for baseball, softball, football and soccer, and tennis courts.Home of the County Fair New Plymouth is the home of the annual Payette County Fair and Rodeo, held in August. Exhibits feature 4-H and Future Farmers of America, as
well as open entries for livestock, crops, handicraft and home economics. The night rodeo, held in conjunction with the fair, is one of the outstanding attractions in the area. Working Waterwheels New Plymouth's unique waterwheels still operate along the Noble Irrigation Canal. Built in the early 20's, they lift water from the canal and pour it into a box which directs it into the fields beside the canal. |
