What Can I Expect?
Frequently Asked Questions

Does laser vision correction hurt?
Your surgeon will place anesthetic drops in your eye prior to the procedure which will numb your eyes. For a few seconds during the procedure you will feel pressure as the surgeon applies a weak vacuum. After this step, most patients feel nothing. The numbness lasts for 20-30 minutes and as it wears off the eyes may feel dry, gritty, or even mildly painful. Your doctor will give you some pain pills in the event that you feel post-operative pain.
What happens on the day of treatment?
The surgeon will escort you into the laser suite in order to have your eyes prepared for the procedure. You will then lie down in a reclining chair and be placed under the laser. Each eye will take anywhere between 60 and 90 seconds. Afterwards the surgeon will place antibiotic drops in each eye and send you home to rest. You will notice clearer vision and improved vision throughout the day. Please make sure you have someone bring you home after the procedure.
When may I resume driving?
Well over 95% of or patients drive themselves to the clinic the following day. Nearly 100% of them have legal driving vision without correction on postoperative day one. We ask each patient to use his own judgment before driving.
Can I go back to work right away?
Most patients are able to return to work the next day depending on your job duties. Remember you do not want to risk getting dust or any other objects in your eyes in the immediate postoperative period.
Can I have LASIK if I am expecting?
Actually you will have to wait at least 6 months after the birth of your child to consider the actual procedure. Your eye prescription will fluctuate during the pregnancy and we will want to make sure your prescription is stable prior to the procedure.
