Brian's 1967 coupe was built in Dearborn Michigan and was initially sold in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. Brian is the second owner of his 1967 coupe. The original owner liked the 1965 color "Poppy Red" so much that he special ordered the car in Poppy Red (a $250 option) with a standard Parchment colored interior. The car's Data Tag shows a six digit number in place of a color code, denoting it is a special order color car. The car came with the Sprint Package which included a vinyl wrapped automatic shifter, louvered turn signal equipped hood, and a chrome air cleaner. The original engine was a 200ci 6 cyl with a C4 automatic tranny and typical 6 cylinder drive train including manual steering and manual brakes with the smaller drums on all four wheels. Brian drove the car in its factory configuration for several years. He and his wife Karen dated in the car before marriage!
Brian's coupe was totaled in a front end accident in 1986 (no fault!) and went through a 14 year resto-modification which completed in the summer of 2001. Sheet metal was replaced throughout the car and a 460 engine, bored to 472ci, and a C-6 automatic were installed. The suspension was upgraded to better than V-8 specifications and power disc brakes and power steering were installed. A functional and authentic 1969 Cobra Jet hood scoop was added and a 9" Lincoln Versailles rear axle with 3:50 gears and Detroit Locker were also installed. Brian recently installed remote controlled exhaust cut-outs which he says, "are the coolest toy you could buy yourself". Karen just hopes he doesn't get a loud pipe ticket!
Brian and his coupe had their 15 minutes of fame on June 8, 2004. Ford Marketing was touring the country with one of only a few of the newly designed 2005 Mustang prototypes in existence at that time. Ford visited cities throughout the US and arranged for morning news shows to do a short 5 minute spot on the new 2005 Mustang as a special interest spot. Ford contacted Mustang Clubs in advance asking if anyone with a '67 or '68 Mustang could join them for the news spot. The marketing behind this was genius - during the news spot the Ford Marketing rep pointed out the similarities in design between the two cars and the excitement would flourished on its own. Brian's car was chosen to represent the Tri-State Mustang and Ford Club in the Cincinnati morning news spot.
"The morning news spot went well and included some footage of my car in addition to the 2005 prototype. For a Mustang fanatic like me, it was really a great feeling to be part of the new Mustang launch in this way. The Mustang club also got some publicity, which was great. It was a lot of fun".
