Our member car of the month is a brand spankin' new Mach 1 owned by Robert & Glenda. As soon as they heard about the special model to be built in 2003, Bob & Glenda knew they had to have it. So they went to their friend Jeff Grow and Dan Wiebold and placed the order on July 5, 2002. Patience is not a virtue with Bob & Glenda, but unfortunately no one had any control over when Ford would actually start building these cars. Ford finally added Mach 1's to the production line in November, 2002. In mid-January Jeff reported that the car was on the line, so production and shipping was closely monitored.
There was considerable uncertainty about when the car would arrive. Bob had to make a quick trip out of town, so he left for the day on February 7. And wouldn't you know it, as Bob was driving away from LAX airport he got a call that the Mach 1 would be delivered that afternoon. So, guess who got to monitor delivery and detailing and drive the car home? Glenda was very excited and called Bob so he could listen to the throaty exhaust system of their new pony. Bob did make it home that night and just before midnight took it for a spin. HOT!! Bob & Glenda's retro pony was the second to be delivered in Idaho. Recalling the Mach 1's of old the pony has a functional Shaker hood scoop, 17-inch Magnum 500-style wheels, hood and body side Mach 1 stripe, comfort weave upholstery, and stainless pedal covers.
The delivery date, February 7, was bittersweet for Bob & Glenda because it was also the date when Jeff Grow had bypass surgery from which he never recovered. Jeff was excited about the Mach 1 and checked on it the night before. It was his last delivery. We'll miss Jeff, a long time supporter of TVMFC.
Here are a few details about their Mach 1:
